PROTEIN

Old age is not a disease. Because a person is old,
he is not inadequate. There is youth in old age,
and beauty too, if we only have the eyes to see."
     - It Gives Me Great Pleasure. Herbert Prochnow

Take moderate amounts of protein needed for growth and repair of tissue.

A deficiency in protein reduces the body's ability to fight diseases
and to heal wounds.

It is in fish, lean meat, skinned poultry, peas, beans low fat dairy products, dhal, low fat yogurt, soy bean and soy bean products.

Eat less burgers and processed meat e.g. ham, sausages and canned meat e.g. corn beef, luncheon meat and salami.

Preserved foods like pickled vegetables, barbecued meat, smoked fish, seasoning, bacon, bottled tomato ketchup, spaghetti sauce, chillie sauce, shrimp paste, salted nuts and potato chips and salted fish contain "hidden salt".

Too much salt and foods high in sodium contribute to the elevation of hypertension. Certain preservatives are known to be carcinogenic.

Steam, boil, roast, bake or stew foods to remove any residual fat instead of deep frying them. Cook chicken without the skin.

Bland foods can be spiced up with herbs, such as ginger, onions, garlic, coriander, lemon juice, parsley, cumin, cardamom, star anis, curry leaves, cinnamon or cloves and not with sauces, salt, MSG, or artificial seasoning.
